You’re It - Bucket List Meme

This is my first time being tagged for a meme, so please be patient if I just don’t get it. Thanks, Jeff!  I do need to figure this stuff out.  So here’s the scoop.  The Bucket List meme was started by Jeff Pulver and is based on the movie.  It seems to have not evolved much and is still essentially a list of things you hope to accomplish in 2008.  So here is my bucket list:

  • Overcome my fear of the telephone - I absolutely freeze when I have to make a phone call.  I’m not sure why.  Maybe it’s my addiction to alternate communications methods.
  • Sleep - I haven’t slept more than 4 hours straight in probably 7 years.  The last 3 years it has been closer to 4-5 hours a night, waking up every hour or two.
  • Relax - I would like to be able to relax and just get silly instead of worrying what others think of me.  This may start with playing Barbies with my daughter and singing Hannah Montana songs.
  • Devote more time to helping the mommas on Mom Reality.  I have been neglecting them lately.
  • Explore color and invite it into my home.  My walls are all white because I have been afraid to commit to color.

I could list many more, but it just wouldn’t be reasonable!  So now I have to find people to tag.  I’m so self conscious about bugging people, but I do like to experiment.  We’ll see if I get slapped for it!

Susan - I’m tagging you because we blog the same stuff and I wanted to get to it first!

Nancy - I’m tagging you because you reminded me about the importance of color!

Chris - I’m tagging you because you crack me up :)

Hey, slap slap slap. Or should I call you up on the phone and slap you? Only kidding.

I’ll sleep on it and see what I can come up with. I like the idea of wish lists. I am not so hot about memes for sappy (or is that crappy?) movies! :-) But I know my list will probably be more about where I want to travel to. I’m a glutton for travel fantasies!

But I can ditto your one about a good night’s sleep. Ah, that would be heaven.

OK, I thought about it. I can’t do it. For two reasons, which I want to share with you.

First, I’m uneasy with this meme thing. It is sort of like the chain letter. I love what I learn, but the sense of obligation I might impose on others is making me uneasy. I’m uneasy with “talking about myself” in this out-of-context way. When I write my answers, I feel like I’m wasting others’ time and attention. This is my hang up and I own up to it.

The second thing is as I thought about the origins of a bucket list, it is the list of things you’d do if you knew you had a fatal illness or knew that you were going to die soon. I don’t feel prepared to answer the question. It is so connected with the context of the moment of knowing. So I felt silly answering.

I wanted to be responsive to you, Jennifer! Combined, I just could not do it. But I feel guilty being a spoilsport with your first meme effort. (If you look on my blog, you will see I have done other ones. )

    Waving!

I agree with you. I felt kind of awkward about it. That’s why I didn’t tag a ton of people. I am so proud of you for breaking the chain and posting your true thoughts!
