2 Hours in Twitter
I did not plan to spend my day absorbed in Twitter, but I just could not resist the pull! I should have been working on my Social Networking presentation for the NWCET conference. I’ve now decided that I was doing just that. Here are some “tweets” from my first two hours spent in Twitter today.
injenuity Anyone know any community college ed tech folks on Twitter or blogging? I can’t find any!
technolibrary @injenuity I bet there are some from ACC in Austin. They have a very techno savvy staff.
hmason @injenuity Have you been to the NCTT conference? http://nctt.org/ (it’s free!) Also, try http://ictcenter.blogspot.com/ Hope it helps.

Aithene @injenuity Sooner or later, twitter will be wirelessly connected into your brain stem. Wait and see.
injenuity @Aithene I blogged about extensible mind markup language a while ago.
Aithene @injenuity XMML. Great! The question is, will you still have to log into the website to update your profile?
injenuity @aithene No. Your brain dumps all contents. System tags everything and publishes to appropriate places. You can restrict tags.
Aithene @injenuity That’s cool. then with a standard profile format, you could manage one profile for all brain-stemmed social-mindNets.
injenuity @Aithene But how do we get stuff back into brains? That’s the problem. We need to discover another sense. Poke at the unused brain parts.
Aithene @injenuity Interesting. That might taking some getting used to. Imagine having to integrate a new sense into a lifetime of never using it.
Aithene @injenuity It would be a very powerful argument for having the jacks installed from birth. The gen that grows up ‘connected’ will be natural
injenuity @Aithene Prior to birth. Just build it into a chromosome or something
injenuity Random thought: How do K-12 faculty/staff talk admin into unblocking things like Twitter and social networking sites for their use?
technolibrary @injenuity Organize a committee to meet with them? Include teachers, librarians and tech staff
glad2be @ingenuity There is a post about this very thing at www.denblogs.com, along with an awesome video!
technolibrary @injenuity Share the NSBA recommendations about social networking
NancyWhite @injenuity share stories of how it makes a difference
injenuity @NancyWhite Is anyone collecting those stories in one place? That would be neat!
injenuity @glad2be Thanks! I just added DEN to my RSS on http://workforce.ning.com/
NancyWhite @injenuity - I would ask Alan Levine, Darcy Norman and those guys. I think they are collecting twitter examples
NancyWhite Maybe we need a wiki to share twitter collaboration stories
NancyWhite Share how you use twitter to collaborate http://tinyurl.com/yw7sa8
injenuity @NancyWhite That was fast! I’ll post that on my presentation ning.
theartguy Trying to find some good ideas for an art lesson on blizzards. Snowmen are not permitted.
injenuity @theartguy Milk jug igloo. http://www.jmeacham.com/igl… Make sure the jugs are washed really well or it stinks!
theartguy @injenuity: That is so cool! I want one!
injenuity @theartguy It’s a nice project to get whole school involved recycling. May end up with more jugs than you need!
terryfreedman i need some humorous websites about web 2.0 please
injenuity @terryfreedman http://www.getafirstlife.com/
terryfreedman @injenuity thx Jennifer. Very apt!
drctedd Hi everyone, please say “Hi” to elementary school teachers in a pd workshop on new web tools.
injenuity @drctedd Hello! Hope you all will say hello to me when I present Thursday noon PST!
I should say, that this all occurred while I was not technically “working.” I fed my kids, cleaned house, played hotel and restaurant with my daughter and did laundry. I find it amazing that so many conversations and actions can happen at the same time. By the end of the day, the Wiki Nancy started had an entire page of stories of how Twitter facilitated collaboration. I was also led to the Twitter-casts wiki by Claudia Ceraso, who had seen the “Tweets” I posted about my Ning presentation site. She joined me in chat on the site and provided more resources and suggestions for my presentation.
In addition to the actual Twitter action, I went through Twitter profiles to add blogs to my edtechblog tag in Google Reader. I have a widget of this posted on my ning presentation site. Toward the end of the day, Claudia Tweeted a link to a search for educators in Twitter. I added about 33 new people to follow. Here are my Twitter stats at the end of the day today:

veeerrrrrryyyy interesting. Looks like you’ve really been getting alot out of the Twitter stream.
Question: Do you think classroom teachers will be able to make use of this during the school year? Hard to maintain a conversation between class periods I would think.

I’m not certain how it would work best in the traditional classroom. Maybe we need to rethink classrooms. What if students could be anywhere in the school and pull in content? Class “rooms” could be designed as comfortable learning spaces with hands-on activities and facilitators. Students could use microblogging to collaborate with students in other rooms, buildings, countries!
