Boot Camp for Teachers
In 1993, I worked for a financial services company and was given the opportunity to attend a Tom Hopkins International Sales Boot Camp. While it did not convince me to forge a career in sales, it did provide me with the belief that sales is part of almost every career. Teaching is selling. If you want to add another tool to your teacher toolbox, spend some time learning more about sales. If you can master the art of overcoming objections, you will spend a lot less time frustrated and yearning to write another blog post venting about people who do not want to learn what you have to teach (sell).
- Visit the library and grab a few books on sales. Keep them in places where you spend time sitting. Skim them when you get a chance.
- Add sales blogs and podcasts to your RSS aggregator.
- Attend a sales boot camp.
- Think of your students as customers.
- Start tracking and analyzing objections from your students.
- Believe in what you are teaching. If you don’t believe in it, you can’t expect your students to maintain interest.
